Open letter to Dwight Howard.

Dear Dwight,

Hey man, I know you had it tough this year.  I know you wanted out of O-town, but because of exterior pressure you decide to stay.  But honestly man, just phone it in tonight, just bail out kid, take the night off, set it on cruise control.

I mean you were born in the wrong erea son, about 8 years ago the Magic was luring two of the greates swing men around T-Mac and Grant Hill and just needed Tim Duncan to complete the 1st BIG THREE!  But that didn't happen and Grant Hills ankle basically kept the Dynamic duo on ice for ...EVER. So now it's just you and group of guys who wish they're were Grant Hill and T-mac, RIGHT NOW!

So the only way out is to suck it out.  Just suck dude, just play terrible, just be bad, I mean BAD and start tonight against the Knicks, let the bench blow you guys out, and hey go up for a coulpe rebounds and accidenlty put them back.

Yeah that'll do it the Magic fans will run you out of town and then you'll be free to sign any where you want kid.

DO IT!  DO IT!

Thanks man.

Sincerely Knicks fans.

Next man up!

I know the NBA isn't the hardcore next man up league that the NFL but the Knicks are in a hard way. Starting Melo at the 4 STAT out indefinitely, Jefferies hurt Walker gone and since Melo is now dinged up it feels like decimation for my team. But it's next man up time. Woodson should try starting Harelson at the 4 and think about giving Jordan some serious mins backing up Chandler. We need to stay BIG that was most important quality. Especially if we want to beat O-town!

Key to the game.
1. Stay big
2. Contest their shooters
3. Limit turn overs and 2nd chances

Come on NY you can do it and I almost forgot about JLin hopefully he'll return tomorrow!

Go Knick!!

Mellow on Melo!

I know everyone wants Melo to be the scoring machine he was in Denver, Mr. Inside, Mr. Outside all in one, but let's be real here in the compressed NBA season I don't think Melo was in the shape he was last year and I'm pretty sure he never realized how taxing this compressed season would on a guy physically and mentally.

D'Antoni's system wasn't working, the emergence of JLin, the inconsistency of STAT and not to mention the plethora of nagging injuries.  All those things can throw off I guys rhythm but,  what has impressed me more than anything is Melo new accountability on the other side of the ball!!

Listen, when you're a score and your shot isn't falling it's pretty easy to tune out of all other facets of the game obsess about the next shot and more or less "grab your ball and go home".  But Melo seems to aggressively want to rebound pass out of the double and dare I say it "gasp" play defense!!

Remember the scoring machine from G-state that the Knicks took on?  You remember that guy his name was Latrell Spreewell, well Spree was a walking scoring machine but the Knicks had Houston in the 2 spot and Allan was the lights out shooter of the Knicks dreams arguably if we had Houston when Ewing was younger we'd be looking a a title or 2.  So what does Van Gundy do? He put's Spree at the 3 spot and encourages Spree to be a lock down defender.  Spree's averages went from about 23 a game to 15 but he was instrumental in holding guys down.  Hey Melo's averages aren't the best this year (career lows) but you can always play defense.  Get the ball to Amare or Tyson cutting to the rim,  eventually you percentages will go up but in the mean time, let's just keep winning.  And if the Post or any other NY tabloid can see that then lets just use it to line our hamster cage.  Melo keep up the good work yo!!

All Good Things Come to and End

It was bound to happen, Knicks had a let down and when I say let down I mean LET DOWN.  But don't be sad T.O. had a win in them.  I said it before,  the Raps are the best team with the worst record.

The Raps have a probably the worst come from behind loses in all the NBA, so they were bound to put a compete game together one day... and did they ever,  against the Knicks.  Great rebounding, great in the paint play and great out side shooting.  And after it all, they closed out the the game well, something they've been failing to do all season.

Good work Raps too bad you won't get a sniff at the play-offs... well there's always next year.

Tebow! Tebow! TEBOW!

Why the heck is an NBA blogger writing about Tim Tebow.  Well the Tebowmania has hit NY city and I can't believe how quiet it's become on the Knicks front, it's amazing the Knicks feel like a regular team quietly having a winnig streak.

Radio personalites and pundits always question why the Knicks get so much pub, let me put it this way, they're in the BIGGEST MEDIA MARKET and they're the only show in town, Basketball wise. (Nets don't count).  Lastly did any of you radio guys ever think I'd be listening to your show if you weren't on ESPN????  Yeah that's right Big media = Big exposure and thankfully Tebows taking off the spotlight on the Knicks.

When the Knicks were winning on their last streak poeple were compairing them to Dallas and how they could make noise in the play-offs, Lin went crazing and LINSANITY blew up, all that did was put a target on their backs A TARGET ON A TEAM THAT ONLY MANAGED TO BE 7TH IN THE EAST!!

It's silly it's senseless I'd rather see them get their business done sneaky, assassin style.  Like how the Mavs snuck up on everyone in the West, but unlike the Mavs the Knicks have to lead with their defense, play D hard because the Knicks don't have an unconcious sniper like the Mavs did in Dirk.  But the Knicks 1 through 15 are a better team and if guys keep sacrifices their offense and play hard D anything can happen. (Thank you very much Carmelo!).

I feel good about the ay the Knicks are playing right now and beating the Sixer showed me they could win close games #closeouttime.

The schedule gets tougher but you can't be the best unless you BEAT THE BEST. I'm confident the Knicks will get it done. Funny the headlines are Knicks not Lin, not STAT, not Melo, do I sense a team in the making ...OH HELL YEAH!

GO KNICKS!!

Old School Defense

That game last night between the Sixers and the Knicks had me flashing back to the 90's when I cut my teeth on the game, where defense was King, and no body got to the rim with paying a price!

Man!!,  it was good nail bitting basketball last night, where 6 points meant something and a 20 points game MADE YOU A BALLER!!

Remember the old Cleveland Cavaliers, the Mike Fratello club, that team ran a defensive CLINIC, no team played defense the way they played defense, if they got 80 points on you... the game was in the bag, nobody scored on that team.  Remember the "ills" , Phills, Mills and Hill!  The team probably was statistically the best defensive team of their era BUT... at the end of the day you got to put the ball in the hoop.

All the radio pundits will tell you defense wins championships but I can GUARENTEE you that the best statistacal defensive rarely wins,  the Cavs never had  chance at a championship they didn't have the fire power, they were ugly to watch (beautiful to me) and if the score got out of hand they were always on the short end of the stick.  Watch the tape (if you can, I mean it, it's very very very hard to watch).

So back to the Knicks, now that they play hard on defense and Melo & STAT are more of a complete players, don't be fooled on any given night those guys can get you 30+ and they both can get to the rim. Sprinkle in JLin in the 4th and man, it's ON!

So whats that make them then?  It makes them DANGEROUS! GO KNICKS!

How do you solve a problem like the Sixers!!

Last time the Knicks faced the Sixers they were warn down they were at the end of long losing streak and the club looked like a dogs breakfast, they looked nothing like the team that beat te Sixers in the prior match up, NOPE... they were on a ledge, holding on to dear life by their finger tips!!

And to top it all off the Sixers Willams and Turner had a career night on us combining for 53 POINTS!!
Damn that's cold.

But NOW IT'S TIME FOR REVENGE, when the Knicks  hit the floor this time, they have to be ready. They have to be breathing fire!!  Say to the Sixers "Yeah, the only reason your on top of the Atlantic is because the season aint over yet!"

No mercy, no mercy this is the game all the pundits will point at this the game that will cement the new regime, the final nail in the coffin of the D'Antoni era!!

THE KING(MIKE) IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING(MIKE)!

Keys to the game:

1. Contain there guard play, at this point Brand is a diversion the real threat comes from the outside in.
2. Play BIG, the Knicks are Bigger than the Sixers, longer let's keep them out of the paint.
3. All-star vs All-star, Melo should lock down Iggy,  Melo number are careers lows but his play is great of late... Iggy had all-star numbers by his standard and the only EQUAL MELO's LOWS.

What a difference a day err... a week makes!

This time last week everyone was hanging the Knicks out to dry.
Linsanity was suspose to over,
Carmelo was on the trading block,
Amere wasn't the "right" type of star,
D'Antoni system was in question and quit on the team.

Fast forward a week...

Mike Woodson has thi team playing inspired basketball,  I had my doubts about D'Antoni's system waaaay back when the Knicks hired him but the team was a mess and I thought his action movie offense could steal a few wins and atleast make the team... interesting.  But like a Michael Bay movie D'Antoni's system was all flash no substance and in the hardcore grind it out east his system was destined to fail.

Not that I had anything agaisnt D'Antoni but watching a talented Suns team wither away in the desert gave me my doubts.

D'Antoni was a F-1 driver but clearly this Knicks team was a ralley car.  You don't have to be an offensive genius when you have a roster full of scorers,  on the contrary you should be a defensive genius these guys will score but the need a coach to preach defense and preach the importance of ball possesion.

Check the Knicks differential in the last 4 games and then check their turn overs, and steals and then lastly look at their fast break points classic defense leads to offense. Sure it's just a snap shot but in a compressed season it's a BIG snap shot and hopefully it foreshadows what's to come for New York! Go Knicks!

Next two BIG for Knicks

The next two games are actually pretty big for the Knicks! The Raptors may seem like a gimme on paper but they are a much better team than their record shows. The probably have the hardest time with the close out losing to teams by a margin of 5 or less the most in the association. If the Knicks take this game lightly and don't bring the hammer out tonight they may give the Raps the confidence they need to finally pull one out!

Keys to the game:
1 play big inside- raps are small and their bigs are deep shooters
2 play full court defense- pick the raps up early stop the ball quickly and don't allow the open 3 ball
3 keep the hammer on- if you get up big stay up big, the Raps can come back and are bound to pull one out eventually

2nd big game the Sixers!! It's a back to back situation and the Sixers lead the Atlantic 'nuff said...
